One of my favorite wines from a superb tasting of around 20 wines contributed and shared by 13 experienced wine lovers. Dark, deep, dense, and delicious. Superbly structured by acidity and tannin, which also helps make the wine be very ageworthy. Overall, a powerful wine that justifies the superior reputation of Diamond Mountain as a high altitude appellation. Wish I had bought all of this wine available back in 2005.

Amazingly youthful, this deep-to-opaque ruby/red wine flaunts an intense core of black currant fruit, adorned with white pepper, anise, cedar and lavender. Full-bodied, fresh and with well-integrated alcohol (13.8%), it wraps its flavors with big sweet tannins and stays luscious in the middle. Closing long and acting like an adolescent, this Cabernet is now reminding me that Diamond Mountain fruit does not fade easily. I have accordingly revised my drinking window. Parenthetically, after ten vintages of Diamond Terrace, Maureen and Hal Taylor no longer produce their own wine. Instead, starting with the 2013 vintage, they are selling these fantastic grapes to their friend and neighbor, Rudy von Strasser (von Strasser Winery). Drink now-2025.

Consumed at home with broiled tri-tip. The bottle was taken directly from the cellar, opened immediately and splash decanted. The wine was consumed and serially tasted over 90 minutes, with the first taste approximately 60 minutes after decanting. Opaque ruby in color, the wine shows a moderately intense nose of black currants, black cherries, vanilla, spice and licorice. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and ample ripe tannins. The flavors mirror the nose and lead to a medium, smooth finish. Very nice! This is a wine which is drinking nicely now and should do so for at least another decade.

Just Okay was not blown away. Spicy, blackberry jam. Finish was adequate.
