This was surprise on the upside. Tar and roses on the nose, with some saline, olive notes. Great mid to fun weighted texture with lift and freshness. the least structured wines of this flight, but aside from the Granbussia, the most harmonious. Some decaying leaves, balsam, and mature notes on the back end. Graceful and cohesive and the most open of the '89 Aldo Conterno wines tonight.

Wanted to slow-ox the bottle, but a bit of cork crumbled into the bottle, so I decanted it for 3 hours. Color started out a bit cloudy, but began to clear a bit in hour 3. Glorious old world bouquet, with an initial bit of oxidation that blew off in hour two. Fruit was a tad bit muted at first and began to wake up in hour 3. A wonderful bottle of old world Barolo.

Granato riflessi aranciati, naso terziario, foglie terra, poi tira fuori un bellissimo frutto rosso croccante misto a un floreale appassito, bocca fresca , viva, bel tannino ancora fitto e presente, finale lungo e pulito. Piaciuto

Well, actually, this bottle was a big dissapointment. Partly because I brought it as a gift. It just didnt have the magic. Slightly murky with lots of sediment, possibly a touch oxidized witha vermouthy character. Still some red fruit, tannins, and also with acidity out of proportion to the other elements. Overall a smooth enough drink - a bad bottle, or past its prime?
