Tasting of 4 Zinfandels, from magnum, nose of briar, red and black cherry, blackberry, and boysenberry, same on the palate, at its best or slightly past it, big body, delicious, elegant, I love magnums of Zinfandel, mouth filling fruit, long, long, flavorful finish. My #1 of 4.

Probably always my perennial favorite Zin from Mike's lineup. This was brought to the OL by Ramon and I was eager to try. I still remember how taken I was tasting the 2003 Feeney with Mike on a past trip to Copain CC when it was in tank, preparing to be bottled. One of those imprint wine experiences for me. But getting back to this wine, as opposed to the 2003 moment, I did not care for this 2000. The alcohol IMO has overtaken the fruit. It seemed hot and medicinal, which seemed to override the black raspberry, blueberry and espresso notes. Listed alcohol said 16.0%. One of the very few Carlisles I have not cared for.

A touch hot, but beautiful rich ripe fruit with smoky spicy notes.

This wine is proof that I need to let my Carlisle Zin's have a little more time than I have in the past. Drinking very nicely.
