Drank from a magnum. Only the slightest hint of brick to the edge. Not fined still darker red dark fruit to the color. Modest vanilla spice to the nose with pepper wrapping dark fruit notes. The body was elegant with modest dark and red fruit well balanced by its acid backbone and soft tannins. Lovely.

The wine was drunk against a 2006 and 2011 and the evolution was clear with all of us favoring the 99 with its beautifully balanced tenor, soft tannins and still noticeable dark fruit. A very slight brick is starting to show, but that is the only indication the wine is 19 years old. The wine clearly has many more years.

Leather, burnt sage, used espresso, dried blueberry and rattan. A medium-long finish; the tertiary nuances are in full swing. So much character and charm. Some feathery tannins as well. Drink now.

Aromas of perfumed black fruit, raisin and violets, adding meaty, feral qualities underneath. Softened tannins with a slight austere quality on the finish. Dark fruit, spice and sous bois qualities on the palate.

Popped and poured. To start I’ll say I thought there was a slight hint of TCA but my buddy did not. Regardless, the berries still cut through. But within about 30 minutes this wine started to die by going out of balance and becoming muddled. Too bad.
