  • An unexpected bottle (bought from the winery upon release) found in the back of the cellar. Drinkable, but past its peak.

  • Sadly, there is no real evidence of fruit remaining in this wine. Very dark burgundy in the glass, with little-to-no bricking. Earthiness and meat on the nose. On the palate, solid structure and balanced acidity but no fruit character at all. Mushroom and earth dominate the flavor profile, leaving much to be desired. At this price point, I expected more ... far more. 2005 was a tremendous vintage for Oregon. Bergström is typically a solid producer. This wine has been perfectly cellared since it was purchased directly from the winery. This showing was terribly disappointing.

  • The second half of a very successful (read: tasty AF) Monday Oregon Pinot side-by-side; this Bergström Vineyard offering showcased both the richness and grace that Pinot can offer, while also leaning more towards the tertiary side of things than the Beaux Frères. The wine still had plenty of ripe fruit notes to share, but as the night progressed the palate delved into the realm of dried fruit, sundried tomato, wet stone, and substantial meatiness. There were even a few moments of it giving its best meaty Syrah impression, interspersed with traces of maple-glazed brussel sprouts and Dr Pepper. Fun stuff, to be sure, and a bottle that has aged extremely well - a testiment to its initial (and lasting) quality. This won’t be my last bottle of Bergström, I can tell you that much!

  • Not showing its age yet. Good acidity, black fruit, some meatiness. Some Burgundy character, but I don’t think it will be confused with Burgundy, at the same price point, but a very solid new world pinot. I have one bottle left, and will serve it as a ringer at a future tasting.

  • Not sure what was going on here with this bottle.... Strong, heavy red fruits that were almost sweet. Then it fell off into a bitterness afterwards and was not well balanced at all. Usually love this wine and have several bottles left, so maybe something odd was going on with this one.
