  • Purchased from Dee Vine, and boy was this DI-VINE! Gorgeous bouquet of orange marmalade, honeysuckle, chamomile, apricot, yellow flowers, smoke. Nice concentration and body, the wine is incredibly fresh and youthful, with an everlasting finish of lemon/lime zest, white smoke, and vanilla cream held up by bright acidity. I finished my glass 30 minutes ago and still the flavors linger on the palate. Outstanding!

  • 2005 Zilliken (Forstmeister Geltz) Saarburger Rausch Riesling Auslese (white capsule) Auction VDP; $29/375 ml; AP 3 551 083 9 06; 7.5 pabv; DeeVineWines; San Francisco, CA.

Cork is oversized and needed to be removed with an Ah-So; eventually removed thus. Rich burnished gold. Deep refractory rich gold color with plenty of botrytis.

Has a highly-detailed, scintillating nose with emphasis on the high-toned end of the spectrum. THere is a coating of creaminess overlying the subtle orange-juice notes, somewhat like an orange creamsicle. The wine is moderately sweet for an Auslese, quite juicy and whistle-clean. Coming into a nice era of drinkability, but still will develop more for the next 5-7 years, and will hold thereafter. Drink now thorugh 2020 and beyond.

  • TN: 2005 Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Auslese VDP Auction 9/2006, AP 3 551 083 9 06, 7.5 pabv. $ $29/375 ml. Imported by DeeVineWines, San Francisco. Tasted at Trattoria Stella on St' Pat's Day 2010. Amazing how all the wines tonight seemed to have a touch of green color to them.

Cork-finished. Medium bodied, with copper and green highlights.

Creamy caramel, cigarette smoke, after shave, spearmint, apricot.

Powerful acid, somewhat too prominent at this point, needing to settle down; quite rich in residual sugar and ripeness. Luscious but barely missing being hot; powerful and round; honey, gooseberries. great clean finish. Needs some time yet. 2015-2025

(Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Auslese (Auction)) A huge step up from the regular Auslese. Lime candy and cotton candy on the nose and an incredibly concentrated palate that is candied but has amazing acidity to slap you silly on the finish. Goes on and on. Stunning.
