  • On the pop 'n pour, this was pretty nice, showing some attractive aged zin characteristics with some nice pepper notes. However, with more air, this dried out and got astringent and oaky with prominent alcohol. It was very enjoyable in the early stages, though.

  • Either there's extreme bottle variation with this wine or it's constantly evolving at a rapid pace. This one displayed the same cassis and fairly yummy secondary flavors as the last one eight months ago, although the secondary flavors are much more pronounced than the fruit at this point. However, the overriding impression on the nose, palate , and finish was HEAT. I normally don't notice the alcohol, even when the label says 16% or more, but there was no overlooking it with this wine. For one of the very few times in my life, the apparently high octane rendered this wine less than enjoyable.

  • Previous bottle was either defective or in the mother-of-all dumb periods. This one was delicious, although I would not have identified it as a Zin in a blind tasting. Red fruits and a little oak on the nose. Fruit on the palate was CASSIS, not raspberries, not strawberries. All kinds of tasty secondary flavors - brown sugar, creme brulee, vanilla, etc. No bramble or any other herbaceous characteristics. Although it wasn't as good, it reminded me of a Pride Cabernet Franc I'd had the night before. Fairly rich, with a decent finish, but it's still quite tannic (so I don't think it's in imminent danger of heading downhill).

  • - Brick color with slow forming legs and aromas of acetic acid. It's overly acidic and has flavours of black pepper and sherry. Satin-Like texture with a medium finish.
