  • Second Sunday Group: Aged Alsatian Riesling Vendange Tardive (Neil's): Courtesy of Neil. Opens with a terrific nutty quality, with apple and a hint a sherry underneath. Marshmallow, apple and pear fruit aromas as it sits. Vanilla cream, almond and dough on the palate. Very much alive and drinking beautifully.

  • ("Vinotheque", purchased 06/2015). PNP at approx. 12,5C I got intense notes of liquorice and sherry - not very promising! When revisited approx. 30 min later, the liquorice was gone and sherry notes far more at the back. Finally able to get the mouth feel of the wine, I found it a lighter and less racy than I had expected but for sure a nice fizz. Another hour later the sherry notes were more prominent on the nose (but this could be whiffed away with some swirling, leaving a rather lovely nose back in the glass) but the palate was much better as the wine had with broadened somehow. This was not as super complex wine, instead more of a one dimentional story. Super-enjoyable still until around 2 1/2+h where the wine fell apart in my glass. What a rollercoaster ride by a wine dancing on the edge of eternal destruction. Paired nicely with some creamy chicken tagliatelle with sundried tomatoes. 89-93p for me over the hours we followed the wine. Think I will land on 91 and stay "neutral" not to mislead anyone into jumping on this one without knowing. Am pretty sure that there will be some great bottles out there though and would love to hear.

Beau nez, évolué, vineux, intense, bouche quasi jurassienne.
