  • Tasted along with '83 Margaux, '93 Ridge Monte Bello, '89 Latour, '94 Petrus and '98 Haut-Brion.

    Clear, medium intensity garnet color.

The nose is fully developed with a medium aroma intensity. Aromas of dried black fruit, fresh black currants dried herbs, grass, dried herbs, cigar ash, leather, cold espresso, gravel dust and a hint of stable. Complex in all its maturity with small streaks of fresh fruit. I dig!

Dry on the palate with a medium acidity, medium body and medium, rounded up tannins. The flavor intensity is medium(+) with flavors of black currants, green bell peppers, grassy herbs, sweet spice, leather and cold espresso. The finish is medium(+).

This wine is definitely past it's peak but it's still very enjoyable, if you like old wine of course. Very soft and silky mouthfeel.

  • The oldest wine in tonight's flight, and the most mature. And even though it might have been tastier 10 years ago, there is still plenty of love left!

Medium+ intense nose with fully developed aromas of tobacco, soy sauce, sesame seeds, cigar box, some green notes, lots of ceder, prunes, and sponge cake. Complex in all its maturity, and a lot better than I had expected. Tasted a '79 Margaux a couple of weeks ago that was far over the hill, and was expecting this to be along the same lines.

On the palate it's quite round, with fine grained tannins, medium acidity and a medium(-) body. Lacking somewhat in intensity (medium) and the finish could have stuck around longer.

There is clear age here, and I would recommend anyone who's fortunate to own a bottle of this to open it fairly soon. Even though it drinks good now, it's probably post peak.
Nose is 94P, Palate 87-88P. Lets go for 91P :)

  • Base neck, very sound cork, six hours slow ox in open bottle. Deep, bright, cherry-garnet color, looking pleasantly youthful, with a very clean nose. Showing surprising fruit along with sweet tobacco and fresh hay. Juicy acidity, very faint tannins, a bit more structure than material. Sadly, this was consumed without food, I believe a careful pairing would have helped this shine. Still one of the better 70's Bordeaux I've tasted. Not scored.

  • Saturday night wines: Utterly oxidized. Cork was disintegrating though.

  • La Lagune vertikal: (Blind) Skyet brunoransje. Papp skogbunn, karamelliserte jordbær. Uttørket frukt.
    Dårlig flaske
