I have found Baumard wines to be distinctly variable over the last few years, often premoxed, but when they turn out well, they turn out very well indeed. This is clean, without any hint of premox or TCA at all, a very pure expression of light peach, lemon and honey, with a long, dry, mineral finish, quite excellent.
Hazy notes from last night. This paled in comparison to the other savennieres we had last night. There was a grassy, acidic note that wasn't all that flattering. Once you got past that taste in the front palate, more normal chenin flavours did appear in the medium bodied palate. Although this is a low level Baumard wine, I do think it could last a while yet (B/B+).
Wow-- what a difference a year makes (or bottle variation perhaps). But much better than my prior disappointing two tastings a year ago. Similar profile-- lemon, lemon zest, dried honey, slightest hint of chenin-type oxidation (borders on beeswax), great grip, and long lemony finish. Drink now.
