  • 2/2, good cork.
Pale/medium garnet core, wide pale garnet/mahogany rim.
Nose is developed with spice, game, underlying red fruit. Slight musty whiff from time to time. Medium bodied on the palate with gamey red fruit, lots of spice, soft tannins, vibrant acidity, medium=good length slightly firm finish. Very gamey, spicy. Still very much alive but I do wonder about borderline cork taint on this bottle. Ignoring the effects of that - 87.

  • Medium ruby core, medium pale ruby rim. Nose is reasonably developed if not overly complex showing red fruits, spice and perhaps a touch of soil. On the palate this is medium bodied, with soft tannins and fresh acidity which contrasts nicely with the sweet yet savoury red fruit and spice. The finish is quietly persistent and shows a touch of game. This is mature, nicely balanced and enjoyable if not overly complex or refined.

  • I have had a few of these now and I remain impressed. 2001 was not the finest year in Burgundy, and this wine does not have an abundance of fruit, but it does have earth, acidity, and balance. This is without a doubt a Burgundy lover’s kind of wine—a bit austere and reserved, but spot on. Excellent to Outstanding.

  • Popped and poured through a Vinturi. Wow. What a treat! A wonderful Burgundian earthy nose with some tobacco and a hint of barnyard. On the palate, still some fleshy red fruit and wonderful balance. Still some grip on the backend, but I would not wait all that long to get to these. Maybe good for another 2 years before it starts to slide. Excellent.
