Last wine of a case of 12. I used to like this ok when it was young, but now this is bad wine, or my standards have risen so much. Turned it into mulled wine and even that was just so so..

(LES GRANDS MARECHAUX) Weekend Dear Friends, Without pretense, here are a few last-minute items to ponder this weekend. There are some particularly good prices below, left-over from 2008 (all of these were slated for offers last month but we ran out of time so the prices have been cut significantly). Have a nice weekend everyone - - Jon Rimmerman ***************************** Focus: Bordeaux 2004 Les Grand Marechaux (1er Cotes de Blaye) LIMIT 24/person at this price What was a circa $20 Bordeaux a year ago has fallen prey to the market - Parker's "85" pretty much ended the commercial potential for this wine but his assessment is just not what I've found in the bottle (it's interesting that he gave the 2003 and 2005 version of Les Grand Marechaux 90pts, both very ripe vintages, but the cooler tone of the 2004 will actually be preferred by many of you) - in this case, I find James Suckling's review more accurate. I've had this wine at least half a dozen times (from bottle) and it's quite delightful for an $8.99 bottle of real Bordeaux (this is the Chateau's grand vin). While it's not the second coming of Latour (or even its hero, Sociando-Mallet) it is certainly more than acceptable in today's world of $7.99-8.99 estate-quality wine. At $8.99, this would have been another candidate for one of the top deals of 2008 but the quantity was not large enough to justify a big to-do. If we run out, a parcel of this is floating around the west coast at a slightly higher price (most of this cut-rate deal is in the Seattle area and should be available around the city at close to our price): PLEASE KEEP REQUESTS TO 24/person ***************************** More Stephan Cote Rotie.... 2004 Jean-Michel Stephan Cote Rotie "Coteaux Tupin" I told the story of the 2004s last week - here's the last of them at a cut-rate price. This wine is also much better than the WA review may suggest (this was also tasted by Parker after only a week in bottle, James Molesworth tasted it after half a year in bottle). ...and one Loire blanc: 2007 Domaine La Rochette Touraine (Sauvignon Blanc) LIMIT 12/person This one can be summed quite easily: It's 2007 and it's $8.99 - that's about it. If you enjoy wine of terroir and are looking for everyday value, here you go - quantities are small - please limit requests to 6/person. Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Bord8799 Rhone6680 Loire7210

boring, blah, nothing there. Probably won't bother to open the other 5 in our cellar. Maybe use in cooking... definitely not worth drinking.

Quite a pleasant surprise, considering 2/09 tasting. Well-balanced, nice Bordeaux example, and great value.

From a 375, sauntering down Drying Out Lane; v. short, dry finish, doesn't have the structure to age this long in a small bottle
