Tasted with an 03 Grand-Puy Ducasse. This was the richer wine, more perfumed and velvety with sweet but not jammy fruit, good length and balance. Enjoyable on its own but the firmer tannins of the GPD give it the edge with the food (roast leg of lamb). Very good WoFW 15-16/20
Tile red, mature colour. On the nose harsh and closed. After decanting the bouquet is more open, but not impressive. On the palate impressions of cigar box, earthy notes and most importantly farmyard. Soft tannins. No fruit left. Still a very elegant wine accompanying beef tenderloin very well. This vintage was better a few years ago, however. I anticipate (hope) this was an outlier; if not it is time to drink up within 1-2 years.
Second bottle from a case and this one seemed better. Perhaps it is just beginning to open up? Combines (a lot) of power with (some) finesse in a way that Bordeaux does best. Suspect it has at least ten years of life left in it.
PHMG WAG: Tour de France 2014 (Chateau Lyon): My WOTN, mostly because of my idiosyncratic love for typical Bordeaux notes. Ripe black fruit and cigar box with some earth and vanilla. Silky and sexy texture, true to its roots in Margaux. Nice long finish, now-2020.

(Chateau Rauzan-Ségla Margaux) An evocative, sexy nose with notes of fruitcake and nuts on the nose wrapped up in a creamy, seductive style. There is real class on the palate, where a rounded, creamy, almost fat texture is counterbalanced by a firm core of tannins, welcome for this vintage, a decent, fresh seam of acidity. This has really good style, and although the tannins remain a dominant feature, past that the wine is just lovely. Again tasted last year, this remains a very strong wine.
(Chateau Rauzan-Ségla Margaux) A blend of nuts and black fruit on the nose here. This is promising. Nice, supple style on entry, then a core of ripe tannins well supported by dark black fruits, with a faint floral edge. This has lovely style; elegance and fresh acidity. Excellent potential here.
