Nose tight at first, but after 45 min, really started to blossom. Full of floral and tar notes. Palate is intense with earth, dark berries, and after 2 hrs tannins started kicking in adding a lovely bite on the finish.
Aged well. Nice nose, fruit present and good balanced finish. Could age for a few more years but I think either at or slightly past it's peak. Hadn't heard of this producer, label looked more like a inexpensive generic barolo and not widely available in the US. A pleasant surprise. Very good.
From magnum. Decanted for 6 hours. This was a joy to drink. A classic old world Barolo with a nostalgic earthy bouquet and a glorious purity of fruit on the palate. Soft tannins this was delicious with a very lengthy and elegant finish. A wine with soul. Wish I had more in my cellar.
Tasted along with the Pie Franco from the same producer and vintage...Interesting wine. Changing throughout the night...usually the more rustic, less complex variant, but tonight it seemed more balanced at times, more astringent at times, more structured throughout, dark fruited, more classic and colder climate than the Franco, which was perhaps affected by the ripeness of 2007 a little too much.
