Short version: really, very much enjoyed it, but wonder if it was worth the money. Also wonder if I would've enjoyed it as much blind, or if knowing the cool backstory and the quality producer made a difference. In any event, to the note itself. The nose was spicy with allspice and cloves, but still not overpowering and pleasantly mild. First thought on the tongue was that this aged well and still retained quite a bit of its structure. It had a long, lingering finish with supple tannins that went well with the Italian food (natch) we paired it with. We probably didn't decant as long as we should've initially (30 minutes), so it really opened up in the glass over time. As it opened, and especially on the finish, we got blackberries and sour cherries -- really strong fruit for a 27 year old wine. As I say, very enjoyable, but the lingering doubt of the QPR is there.

Vintage Tignanello Tasting (Louise's House): From Magnum. Bottle number # 18788. Clean muted nose that offers very little... A touch poopy with ripe garden berries. The palate is dry with moderate lively tannins. Sweet red fruits and vanilla are well focused with wet stone, tomato leaf and cedar chips complementing nicely. This also has a really nice siilky mouthfeel that stretches out on the moderately long finish of stued berries and spice. Drink now - 2014. This may last longer but I feel its evolution while still tasting somewhat youthful may be stunted. Outstanding Quality. 92 Pts.
