Pergole Torte Vertical tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): Glass: Zalto Universal and Burgundy Tasted blind. Clear, deep glowing garnet color. Deep, airy and fine nose, ethereal notes, some rose petals. On the palate round, ripe, some forest floor, ethereal notes, but still very fresh and lively. Very elegant, harmonious and with great finesse. Long, fine herbaceous finish. Beautiful. 93-94

MONTEVERTINE VERTICAL (FLORENCE - WINE IN PROGRESS 17/11/2013): So sexy and capturing, sapid and waxy Ripe fruit, almost candied. It's difficult to find such a complex nose on a 2002! On the palate is racy, weak and rustic, compared to the charming aromas I smelled before.. Maybe an unpleasant phase of developement

This is from memory. I had a bottle a few months ago. Bad vintages = deals on good producers. Montevertine threw out 40% of their fruit in this vintage and combined fruit from their best plots the make this wine. Yes, that includes fruit from their vines that produce their flagship wine "Le Pergole Torte", which was not produced this year. This wine is no heavy weight for sure, but it is very elegant and is beginning to show really well with secondary characteristics coming through. Good acidity and the tannins are resolving.

Light garnet color, a bit orange around the rim. Nose of tart red plum and dusty earth with some herbal, cocoa and violet notes. Silky on the palate with medium body, but delicate flavors, almost Burgundian; a bit odd for a Sangiovese blend. 12.5% abv. Interesting and worthwhile wine, but not for the tariff.

Decisamente molto buono, nota di amarena/ciliefia piaciovolissima al naso, bocca bella piena. Il suo limite è la complessità
