  • Cellar condition was not optimal, but ullage and color looked good for an eleven year old bottle of wine. Could smell rich notes from the wine right after the corked was pulled. (The cork was in relatively good shape.) The color was surprising dark for an eleven year pinot noir. Some tawny colors around the edge; otherwise, a robust looking wine. So far so good! Nose was rich from the get-go, with dark cherries and red fruits, and perahps a touch or amaretto. The tast was really lovely with rich notes very similar to the nose. Some tannin and acids where noticable; yet everything was in balance. Nothing harsh or thin about this wine. Quite a lovely wine and - yes - this wine can age a few more years, and provide any wine/pinot noir drinker with an example of age worthy California pinot. Lastly, the wine had very little sediment, though decanting would have been optimal; maybe 10 minutes at most.

In sum, enjoy this wine if you are lucky to own any and realize that certain vintages from certain wineries do produce pinot noirs worthy of a decade of cellaring. 1997 was a wonderful year for this producer.
