Community Tasting Notes (7) Avg Score: 91.2 points

  • Medium golden color; high intensity aromatics, honey, apple, pear, white fruit; palate is medium-plus body, much less sweetness than I was expecting for an auslese, low alcohol (7% labeled), slight honey character, fresh minerality especially towards the finish; clean, flavorful, complex, medium-long finish. This is a fully mature riesling with superb balance and very good complexity. 93

  • Two 1993 Wines for a Twenty First Birthday Celebration (Nopa, San Francisco): Light gold in color. Very little if any botrytis, apple and green flowers or herbs. The rich feel of an Auslese but less palpable sweetness than many recent vintage Kabinetts, and an uncanny sense of delicacy to offset the extract of the wine. Excellent acidity and a tremendously slate-filled finish. Remarkably pristine and crystalline, only exhibiting any mature Riesling scents after about 2 hours of air. Marvelous and still a few years at least from full expression. Another triumphant Prum.

  • 1993 is a year we are very sentimental about and thus we could not resit it. Not the best example of this wine we have to admit. The nose is textbook with lime, light apple, and petrolly notes and thats about the highlite. On the palate it is more a light Spatlese in density, weight and sweetness. Lots of acidity here too. Quite a few bitter edges in thsi wine though spoil the fun. To be honest if we had any we would forget them in some back corner of the cellar and try it for our 40th anniversary in 2033 :) . 87 at this stage

  • Still very youthful, showing a whiff of sulfur initially that blows off to reveal fresh pear and apple fruit seasoned with slatey, herbal and developing smoky elements. Moderately sweet, drier and lighter than most modern Spätlese with bright acids and impressive length.

  • Lovely pertrolly, slatey nose, with some green apple, lime and hints of cream aromatics. Drinking beautifully, very complex palate, show the darker slate of the GH, and is at once powerful and light on it's feet. Long finish. Yum!
