  • So this was good, not great and I think this is past its prime (for sure this bottle was). Ruby in color with a fair amount of browning. Pop and pour, this improved a bit in the first hour and then pretty much held its own. The nose has cherries, some mushrooms, a bit of barnyard and some dark cherries. On the palate, a bit drying but also very complex. Layers of mushrooms, cherries, and earth. I think if you gave me this blind, I would have gone to an older new world Pinot (which is not a bad thing). I finished the bottle but it never really got me excited either. I would drink up if you have these (depending how you like them).

  • From 75cl, decanted 2 hours without obvious effect. The alcohol (16% according to the label!) dominates everything else; texturally (and in terms of what the drug does to your brain at this level of concentration) this is very close to port. There is some (massvely fat, hulking great rap-star) excellent stuff in here: brooding liquorice, super-ripe loganberry/blackberry fruit... But I wouldn't be sad if I never drank another drop of this ever again. Sure, it will probably last another decade, and if you like Really Big Zins, this might just hit your sweet (very sweet) spot. 88-89P

  • Full bodied, very deep and dark ruby colour. Nose of licorice toasted and slightly candied dark fruit. Overwhelming power on the palate. Too many tannins and alcohol for the light food it accompanied yesterday.

  • Strong fruity and jammy nose. Powerful attack of plum, sweet strawberry jam, licorice. Very chewy but rather smooth. Powerful character but far too high alcohol content at 16% to really please. Medium length. Not an easily drinkable wine. This one needs good company, correct food pairing, and moderation.
