I had a little of this over several nights, and my initial impression was that I'd waited too long, really wasn't very good. But it got much better, 3rd and 4th nights the best. I don't think this wine is "past its prime," just needs some time. I was surprised that after 14 years more time would be a benefit.
Nice if you like mature wine. Definitely a bit past its prime, fruit has faded and structure failing... But with a bit of time in bottle it opens up with leather, dried fruit, and and tobacco. Nice polished finish.
A fine winter sipping night. CORK ALERT use a vintage puller! Delightful to the eye, with cherries over spice to the nose, supple and smooth to the palate. Many legs in the glass. Not much structure left. Do it now.
