(Domaine Courbis St. Joseph Les Roye) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-explosive; beautiful red fruit; dark plum; black pepper coming through; a little sausage; interesting, big and powerful; PALATE-very gamey and very BIG; there's a lot of fruit packed in this wine; plum and grape; very serious fruit; a very aggressive bottle of wine that's structured in a way that really makes you want to drink more; this has beautiful attack, then a gorgeous mid-palate; hits you with a lot of fruit, then goes really smooth and finishes quite strong; I like this wine; this wine is VERY well made; this is BIG and explosive, but is backed up with a lot of secondary flavors; rosemary and hint of chocolate; spiciness; this is a phenomenal bottle of Syrah; WS-92; GV-93+
