Decanted 2 hours. Screw cap. Aromas of dark berry fruit, spice, hints of tobacco, vanilla, herbs. The palate is terrific - balance, softening tannins, length. It makes you want to take just another sip every time. After more than 5 hours in the decanter, it was still going strong. Wonderful wine now, but there's no rush here.
Really great cabernet - decadent whilst still maintaining balance, and full of character and complexity. Blackcurrant dominates, supported by plums and dark cherry, dark chocolate, a touch of eucalypt, background cedar and vanilla from oak, and closing a hint of dark olive.
Tannins are softening but still present and supportive. Will keep for another decade but it's hard to see it being any better than now.
Easter with McG Family; 4/3/2015-4/5/2015 (Gerroa): A nicely developed fragrance with red berries supported by earthy cedary complexity. Similar flavours, pure ripe red berries with a lovely rich cedary streak. Maybe a little more developed than expected but only makes it more attractive. Classically stylish with superb structure and very fine long finish. Beautiful wine.
Very nice example of a Margaret River Cabernet. Purple with lightening to garnet at the rim. Nose shows dark fruit (currant, plum) with a distinctive note of eucalyptus. Same is echoed on the palate where the fruit meets a nicely integrated spine of acidity -- keeping the wine lighter on its feet. Tannins are well-integrated. Very nicely done--glad I have 2 left. Will probably wait 5 years for the next one as this still came across as very fresh.
