As an Australian, experiencing a Cote-Rotie syrah is always an interesting experience. In this case, it was a wonderful experience. Ruby red and a tinge of brown, it is a medium bodied wine that is quite aromatic. Lovely sweet fruits with white pepper, tobacco and chocolate, body is light and supple with full of savoury notes. Great depth and complexity and possesses a deft finish. Can't really ask for much more.
Drink now 5+ years and needs a good few hours of airing.

Northern Rhone Dinner (2012/2005/1998 focus) (Chez Lagragne): Attractive black fruit and bacon fat aromatics. Rich, big palate that is more sweet and less meaty at this stage with a wood influence that I'm not crazy about. Needs a decade to come together.

(Mostly) 1998, 2005, 2012 Northern Rhône (Chicago, IL): Pretty large-scaled syrah, especially for Jamet. There's a good feral tone to this wine, but also plenty of salinity, meat, and smoke -- many of the things that I truly like about syrah. It's pretty ripe and shows plenty of fruit now, but this is more about the structure than straight-up enjoyment right now. Probably more interesting to let this age.

Not sure what to make of this. I love Jamet CR and drink quite a few of them but this spoke nothing like a good Jamet would behave in an exceptional vintage. 6 Stars from JLL, Hmmmm…Couldn’t even identify this as a Jamet. Ain’t buying this if the experience was correct.

Vinøs hyttetur 2023: Blind. Grafitt, svært strukturert, lang, mye finkornede tanniner. Vent 5 år til.
