Initially a bit closed even with herbal notes dominating. Then opened up and added lovely scents of lemon curd and a touch of butter and toast. Relatively rich on the palate for a Puligny which is not a bad thing as Puligny can sometimes bee too light.

Not as good as bottle last year. All correct, but this lacked the definition and complexity of the previous. Acidity was rather dominating I thought. Still good, nice showing for 20 year old Cailleret. Drink these now for sure.

From magnum. Mint notes on the nose. Wood has mellowed to soft vanilla. Nice depth of aromas. Still a level of zip to the acid on the palate, with stewed lemon suffused across the palate. Light nuttiness on finish. Made by Roulot

Domaine de Montille Vosne Romanée Malconsorts Lunch at La Paulée (1760 Restaurant, San Francisco): Magnum. Healthy bright yellow, just a shade deeper than the 2002. Some initial mushroomy, slightly musty notes, but increasing citrus with air. Rather delicate, not tired at all, and it picks up weight and texture as it sits open. Creaminess balanced with a lemony, mineral backbone and a stony finish. This freshened and improved over the 2 hours it was at the table. Ultimately, classic Puligny and the best of the 3 vintages poured; very impressive for 20 year old white Burgundy.
