  • This 25 year old wine still had something to offer. Despite decanting, the nose was a bit "chemical" and the taste very matured, not yet on the maderised side. Still was a great moment to open this bottle.

  • A 24 year old wine that deserves a lot of respect for holding up so well and showing off some very nice notes of leather , spice, a bit of marzipan along with some decent dark fruit and its totally not done. There is a green element that knocks off a point or two but it’s not too overpowering. I love mature wine, especially when it can still show off the characteristics typical with Bordeaux and this wine is definitely one of those wines. Excellent and just how a good mature wine of this age should be. One hour of air is enough to get the wine showing well.

  • 12,5% alcohol.

Somewhat developed and moderately translucent cherry red color that turns towards pale brick hue towards the rim. Ripe, intense and nuanced nose with very pretty, classic Bordeaux aromas of sweet blackcurrants, plummy fruit, some woody pencil shaving tones, leafy Cab hints and a touch of tobacco. Very nice. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and quite bitter on the palate with savory and somewhat thin flavors of wizened dark berries, some freshly picked blackcurrants, a little bit of savory woody tones, a hint of astringent chokeberry character and a touch of earthiness. The tannins feel almost fully resolved and contributing more to the grainy texture than to the structure. The finish is lightly grippy and quite savory with moderate bitterness and medium-long flavors of ripe blackcurrants, some savory woody tones, a little bit of developed pruney fruit and a hint of leafiness.

A nice, classic and sophisticated claret, but also one that seems to be on the verge of falling apart: the wine shows no signs of oxidation or over-age yet, but the fruit department seems to have withered up considerably, making the acidity and bitter spicy tones stick out in a slightly unbalanced fashion. I enjoy the savory qualities and thoroughly classic aromatics here, but in a tasting of 13 aged Bordeaux reds, this wine came across as rather underwhelming due to its somewhat thin flavor department. The wine is still good, but most likely not showing its best anymore. Time to drink up. Priced more or less according to its quality at 35€.

  • Good nose of black berries and some tertiary notes, on the palate rather thin. After 1 hour old and over.
