  • What a great Village level 2005, this is just now entering its peak drinking window. Black, brawny and meaty, this has the volume and density of 1er Cru with some faint rough edges for the sake of rustic charm. This is a powerful wine good to enjoy over the next couple of decades, it’s what 2005 was meant to deliver.

  • It’s never fun when a wine is corked. That was the case when we thought we’d be tasting a 1999 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Thankfully, we had a backup bottle: Daniel Bocquenet’s 2005 Nuits-St-Georges 'Aux Saint-Julien’. A savory Burgundy that took around two hours to really hit its peak, this village Nuits-Saint-Georges from Daniel Bocquenet was earthier than a typical red burgundy. Flooded with flavors of umami, tart cherry, mushroom and spices on the palette, this wine truly got better by the glass. This was a really interesting example of the Pinot Noir grape that was incredibly good on the night once it hit its stride.

  • wow, had a bottle of this a couple months back and it wasn't that nice... this time it was good on night one but saved 1/3 of the bottle for night two (gassed and fridg'd)... oh boy what an experience on night two... beautiful texture in the mouth, with umami / spice on top of slithery fruit as the wine migrates across your tongue... what a beautiful wine, I immediately went to find more and ZERO in the US right now... oh well, if you have them I recommend decanting in the AM for dinner... the extending air really really helps
