  • This bottle is a bit rougher than previous tastings. Oak, dark fruit and earth. Rugged, and full of extract. A bit overdone (rubber) but still enjoyable with a hearty meal. (88)

  • I probably bought this wine at a closeout price from the same source as DBKITCH and this bottle more resembled the one he noted in 2012. I wanted to drink some nebbiolo last Sunday afternoon with football (having just returned from nearly 2 weaks of austrian whites and pilsners on a wonderful trip), and this was standing up and caught my eye. In the past, I remember it as over ripe and syrupy, and to my surprise this has all developed into a very good bottle of nebbiolo if you like the Altare house style. Not at all chewy in terms of the short tannins of the 03 vintage, and lots and lots of fruit. Not for the arch traditional, but an encouraging indicator that the 03 vintage, while not great, is coming into its own (I had a similar experience with an 03 Pertimali a few days later).

  • The only wine that slightly disappointed tonight. Good, but lacked the explosive and complex fruit of the past few bottles. Good but kind of boring. (87)

  • This has really stepped up over the last few years. Big, plumy and full of fruit and oak. Caressing and velvety. Not an elegant wine, but a sweet mouthful that is nice on a cold winter day. I am really surprised at how well this wine is doing compared to a few years ago. (92)

  • Nice tawny-ish crimson brown color, very slight fading on the rim, beautiful nose of spices, sweet tobacco, and candied plums. Good attack but disappointing mid palate which has slight heat and acidity overwhelming the fruit, medium to full body, ok finish. Not a stunner.
