  • Medium garnet color with watery rim. Nose needed some time to open up but when it did it revealed an expressive and typical high quality northern Rhone wine. Aromas of black and white pepper on the foreground together with floral nuances (poppies and carnation), wood, blackcurrant and blackberry constitute a wonderful nose which combines secondary aromas with some freshness of primary fruit. Palate is medium bodied but there is good flavor concentration, flavors are even more savoury than on the nose with a slight bitterness balancing nicely the sweetness of fruit, texture is fluid and combined with relatively high acidity make a refreshing red wine. Tannins are ripe although they leave a slight drying sensation on the gums. Finish has good length and leaves a refreshing bitterness.

  • W Squared (Vin+ Jakarta): Translucent, almost a touch of orange, but not mature. Funk, white pepper, lots of it. Rohan wants to sneeze. I am getting some pig farm action. French all the way. Sweet licorice, somewhere between the black & red kind. Also get some fuel oil notes buried as secondary nose & flavors. We all like ooh and ahh for this one. Clearly some maniacal wine making going on here. My wine, Ponti’s suggestion, well done. Simmy nailed the wine maker, how des she do it? Perhaps too much time in the “small room”.

  • The Five Levels of Northern Rhone Drinking (Triomphe): 21 months in 80-90% new oak. More tender on the palate than anything else in this flight, though also a little bit saline. Finishes with violets.
