  • Has aged nicely, still a lot of fruit, not complex, an easy wine to drink with lots of flavor.

  • A bit harsh on the nose and palate, too much fruit and not enough balance or complexity. Lacks the pepper that makes syrah interesting. Could pass as any one of several red blends. Drinkable but not a winner.

  • US Syrah (Reno, NV): Very dark color with purple still at the rim… moderate + extraction. Very fruit dominated with a slightly “cheap” volatile mix of raspberry and grapey aromas… minimal earth and the oak is still there with more vanilla than elegant spice. On the palate very high, pitchy, artificial feeling acid that strikes me as being an error, a very broad midpalate that transitions quite nicely into a rich, smooth and fleshy finish… moderate alcohol. Adequate balance, shortish length, high intensity, and not a lot of complexity though seemingly very young. Not a wine of finesse… texturally flawed at the beginning but nice towards the end. Would be hard to guess this as Syrah and would never be able to place it… rotten expression of varietal and place. Drink now.

  • I REALLY like this wine. Big mouthfull of heavy duty Syrah. Huge fruit. Enough tannin to keep it together. Long finish. Jammy. Fully extracted. A hint of bret in the nose when first opened - enough to make it racey, but it only adds to the adventure. My new favorite Sierra Foothills syrah - and there are lots of good to great ones. If you like red Rhones you must try this wine.
