| | Tasted by gkarlsson on 1/17/2009 & rated 95 points: Lots of fruity berry character, dark chocolate bouquet with blackberries, voluptuous, mouthful of fruit, but didn't come on too strong, soft tannins (1359 views) |

| | Tasted by d2 on 7/20/2008 & rated 83 points: Dark fruit, anise, and leather on the nose. Dark fruit with a hint of anise on the palate. For a $5 bottle of wine, this is pretty good. A little short on the finish and the body is probably what you'd expect in this price range but it's a perfectly good every day sort of wine. (2194 views) |
| | Tasted by annrick on 6/17/2008 & rated 87 points: Very good QPR at $6. Red berries and a little dusty. It seemed to hold up well with an inert gas blanket for 3 days, surprisingly, retaining a fleshy and soft taste. This would be perfect for everyday drinking, especially with pasta and tomato-based dishes. (2376 views) |
| | Tasted by tarheel17 on 6/15/2008 & rated 86 points: This wine was really a pleasant surprise - very good value for $6. Nice blackberry and spice on the palate, a decent amount of acidity which made it pair well with food (meat lasagna) and no real flaws. I would definitely buy this again, esp for pasta dishes. Finish is very short, but who cares - it's quaffing wine.
Second night: UNDRINKABLE. The wine lost almost all fruit, only bitterness remained. I poured it down the sink. This wine should be drunk soon after opening - it couldn't even last 22 hours on the counter. It gets 86 the first day, 69 the second. (2406 views) |

| | Tasted by MrTaz on 4/22/2008 & rated 87 points: Deep purple. Raspberry and spice. Good body. This is a very pleasant everyday wine. Very good QPR. (2722 views) |
| | Tasted by mjl on 4/7/2008 & rated 87 points: Delightful. Nice balance. More so fruity than earthy, but a classic Nero. Nothing amazing but perfect for a relaxing night. Did not decant, as the flavor was there from the start. I'd almost say the young wine lost flavor after about an hour. Excellent value. (2780 views) |

| | Tasted by WNissen on 2/10/2008: 13%. Though the label says "jammy," the reality is the opposite. Earthy, red-fruited, snappy balancing acidity, this consistent favorite represents an outstanding value. Very Good. (3071 views) |

| | Tasted by Dulcie and Aylwin on 1/19/2008: "It smells like a cross between a Dornfelder and an Agiorgitiko..." Please elaborate. Dark clear red purple color. Some berry notes and earthiness on the modest nose. Warm ripe plum, moderate body, some acidity. In looking for something inexpensive with reasonable Italian character (a gross generalization I admit) this fares quite well. A lot better than many a thin sharp Chianti I have endured. Wood buy again, even with the Dornfelder overtone. (3185 views) |

| | Tasted by pnwsun on 11/19/2007: opened and sipped with little time to open but still...slight nose and hint of fruit. a great deal for $5; probably better the the lamura or morgana. (3381 views) |
| | Tasted by ttriche on 11/18/2007 & rated 84 points: Same as last time. Mildly bitter/astringent finish that mars an otherwise perfectly quaffable wine. (3411 views) |
| | Tasted by dbp on 9/17/2007 & rated 83 points: Fairly musty nose. A bit of armpit hair 10 hours after deodorant application. Some paper mache and tabacco as well; no real fruit to speak of. Medium body, but fairly light on the palate. Vague hints of red fruit, with little zingy acidity (which I like). Finish disappears after 5-10 seconds. Not offensive like most $5 Trader Joe's wines, but not amazing. I'd buy again if I wanted to cook with it, but probably not to drink straight up. It is what it is. (3781 views) |
| | Tasted by pnwsun on 9/13/2007: nice with some cheese appetisers. light, adds slight finish to food. good value. (3578 views) |

| | Tasted by mulligan452002 on 8/17/2007 & rated 70 points: Tasteful ancient art on the front label. Decanted but no time to breathe. My first experience of Nero d'Avola, to my knowledge. Cost $5. The closure is cork but in good condition. The colour is a dark, slightly purplish (when you first pour) red. The aroma is dry, not very fruity and not particularly enticing, to my taste. It smells like a cross between a Dornfelder and an Agiorgitiko. The taste is very tannic (very dry) but equally unpleasant. The aftertaste is bitter but mercifully short. I will have to use this wine for stew, and it won't be my best broth. Below average. Avoid.
Per labels: Production area: south-western Sicily. Abv 13%. (3781 views) |
| | Tasted by Alekos on 7/21/2007 & rated 84 points: Not amazing but a really good value at $5. Drinks well by itself and goes nicely with sharp cheddar cheese. (3701 views) |
| | Tasted by ttriche on 7/8/2007 & rated 84 points: Tasty with lasagne (took this to an outdoor movie showing on Saturday w/Catherine) and, at the right temperature, on its own. Not a substantial wine, but refreshing, with a bit of sour cherry flavor and a more lengthy, acidic finish than I expected. Drink this warmer than you might -- cool room temperature is perfect. Great QPR for $4. (3802 views) |
| | Tasted by swolf on 5/25/2007 & rated 83 points: Nice ruby color, decent nose of raspberry and sour cherry though slightly stewed. Tasted a bit hot at first but drank nicely about 1 hour after opening. Sour cherry and slight bit of raspberry on the palate that drops away fairly quick. All in all not a bad bottle for $4.
