  • Pure, focused, intense apricot fruit. Cellared since original release.

  • Superb example of why the high-acid high-fruit Riesling makes the greatest wines with residual sugar. Creamy texture. Acidity keeps refreshing without ever being cloyingly sweet. Utterly delicious lemon and lime citrus fruit. Will keep and drink well for years more.

  • Translucent gold color with no taste of oxidation. The nose is an intriguing fresh apricot with a hint of roasted creme brulee. Sipped, a bracing citric acidity tightly interweaves with citrus flavors of orange and lime, and clamps onto the residual sugar of this 7.5% alcohol wine, making it almost off dry. The caressing finish is endlessly delicious.

  • About 12 years too early. Damn. Delicious, though. A shock it's an 02! Seems more like 01 or better yet, an 09.

NOSE: initially tight, showing only hints of petrol and butternut squash; smells mature, surprisingly; Cheetos; a bit must; more expressive w/air (~1.25 hrs); light lemon curd after a couple hours.

BODY: yellow-amber color is darker than I expected; no spritz; medium-full to full bodied.

TASTE: high acidity; very ripe pear-lime combo; lingering wooly/mineral note; very sweet for a Spatlese; the Nose and color belied this wine’s youthful energy on the palate … this tastes quite fantastic; 9% alc. not noticeable; very limey; light strawberry note after 2.5 hours; I have to admit, the disconnect between the Nose and Taste is confusing; Drink Now or Hold.

Rockss and Fruit

(Schafer Frohlich Bockenaeur Felseneck Spatlese) Peach, mineral, pears, plum and papaya on the nose. Very exotic and tropical fruit echoes on the palate along with lots of fat and a peach fleshy finish. Acidity sneaks up on the finish. There is also a hint of nectarine flesh there. Great wine from this new star in the Nahe.

(Schafer-Frohlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spatlese) If you like acid (which I do) then these wines are for you. Very concentrated with intense flavors of tangerine oil and lime zest. Like a sweet tart. The strong acids support the wealth of candied fruit. Almost unending on the finish.
