40 anniversary. Amazing old Ridge wine. Mostly zin with some Carignane and petite sirah. Amazed at how this wine still delivers freshness and depth. Ridge is still a great value in wine. I wish i had more. So good.

Ripe and a bit porty on the nose, but actually more balanced on palate. Dark berries, cassis, coffee. Sweet ands ripe, but interesting, and a pretty good finish. But I think I pushed this as far as I’d go. B/B+

Rich, roasted, jammy bouquet reminiscent of cocoa powder, cassis reduction, hot chocolate, black cherry compote, and minty-eucalyptic topnotes. There’s something a touch feral and foxy, with a meaty nuance and hints of stewed fruit to boot. The palate is fresher and has nice grip and acids to balance the rich, concentrated fruit. There’s a potent finish showing some spirit but with a good, bright, drying finish. Honestly, there’s almost an amarone quality too this, but with better brightness. I like it a lot but wouldn’t crave it everyday... with a few hours of air, the bouquet takes on even more late harvest character, showing raisins, anise, and iodine, but the balancing, freshening mintiness also amplifies. Intense, complex, rich.

From its still primary flavors when first tasted in 2012, this wine has settled in to claret complexity. Rhubarb is gone, but there is plenty of molasses, Draper perfume, and toffee. Dusty rose on the finish with a compelling mouthfeel. A blend of 74% Zin, 18% Carignane and 8% Petite Sirah. Very few grains of sediment. 14.4% alc. With (chicken) coq au vin and the friendship of the Smileys, Sheets and Karen Frank. Highly Recommended.
