Still quite youthful, required an hour or two to start opening up, even then it was never fully expressive. Fruit was a bit muted, seemingly hidden beneath the tannin. Nothing was particularly memorable here but it was still an elegant and nice wine to drink.

Great aromas of thick rose petals, summerripe cherries and drying wood. Not as much minerality but more flesh notes. Great wine in the making for sure!

There is some fruit on the nose, but this is no charmer. No concentrated, rich, velvet bombshell here. Fresh, sharp, stony and quite acidic, with enough stuffing to improve for a further 10-20 years. As I understood it from my last visit at the domaine, this 2005 was the first vintage Combottes from G. Barthod, and it was served first in the barrel-tasting, suggesting that this is one of the lesser wines in the line-up. This time served last at a dinner with more or less well-evolved italian reds from the 50's and 70's, this hit me almost like a fresh rosé champagne! Liked it for its fresh, challenging, up-front aromatics and the lifted nuances. Others liked it less than I did. (87-89 pts)

Dark colour for a burgundy; nose is slightly closed, some vanilla and blackberry; taste is tannic, slightly acid and sharp, a hint of berries behind it all, but not that great a pleasure

This needs a lot of time in the cellar yet!
