Red fruit and tar, more red fruit and tar, some light florality and higher toned herbal notes that emerge with time in the decanter (though my goodness, it left a LOT of sediment behind). I love the sheer intensity and brightness to the flavors here, and it played perfectly with the food (fresh pasta and a meat ragu.)

Just awesome - continues to be one of my favorite Barolo producers of any style/price. Still has a very nice color despite it's 18 years, with only slight bricking in the glass, but I'd mistake this for a 2007 or so based solely on color. On the nose, this is wonderful: iron, pine needles, earth, framed with some nice dark blue fruit. Tannins are present but well integrated at this point. Finish was amazing, 30+ seconds, unmistakable Barolo elements with still a lot of grip. This wine has something for everyone: it's no overly-oaked pushover, yet is accessible and will continue to be for at least 5 yrs (and I might even score it higher then). Bravo Pira.

Not sure if there was a slight fault or if it was over the hill. Might be time to drink if you have them.
