  • It's been thirteen years since I last had this wine and the time has treated it well!

Full but not overdone with exquisite balance and finesse with red and blue fruits and lots of sous bois character.

Certainly in a great place now and expect that it will stay that way for years!

  • Zachys La Paulee Auction, Day Two (Smith & Wollensky - New York NY): Popped and poured. Very firm and dense black fruit aromas, similar on palate, not particularly accessible. Very dense throughout, I'd give this a long decant if trying any time soon. This never really got more interesting, even with 2+ hours in glass.

  • Final Night in DC (Palena - Washington, DC): This had about 8 hours of air before dinner. Everything about this wine was powerful. It had aromas of dry-aged meat, dark spices, cranberry, dried leaves and leather - one of the more nuanced and complex noses I've come across of late. The palate was equally as complex. Layers of dried florals, hung meat, mushrooms, dried leaves and cranberry. The density of flavor on the palate was intense, but the mouthfeel remained airy and lithe - the perfect combination. Loved this wine, and while it's enjoyable now, will surely hold up for a long time.

  • Nose: As soon as cork was popped, beguiling nose of a swirling potpourri of spice box, roses, bay leaf, five spice, moss, red and dark fruits, underbrush and orange zest.

Taste: Great dimension and finesse. Linear and medium structured with flavors of red and dark fruits and grand cru breed. Still firm but giving plenty of fruit and earthy flavors. This wine was racy with a wild streak which made it special.

Overall: A thouroughly enjoyable bottle which is starting to open for business. Happy to have a few more and excited to follow this over the next five years when I expect it will reach its apogee.

  • Deep garnet. Soft, plush nose of dark fruit, vanilla, and a hint of spice. Soft feminine mouthfeel. Explosive palate but restrained. Remarkable tight rope act. Tastes of strawberry and orange, chalk. Builds to a spicy long finish. Exquisite balance. World class wine.
