Last bottle of a case. Dark purple red, strong tannin, coarse over extraction, firm body, earthy, smokey oak. Compare to five years ago, all freshness and fruitiness is gone. It was balanced, integrated tannin, chocolate, smoked hickory. The only weakness was a bit short finish, but now all these good characters are gone. Leave dry, bitterness, over extraction, and closed. Wish I had drank it earlier or perhaps wait a few years more.

Great wine. These are the guys who have just won the #1 WS spot for 2008 for their Clos Apalta. This is a much lower price point and is pure Syrah. On the nose there is tarmac, and overripe black fruit. On the palate there is an oilineness and complexity with layers of fruit. Great comparison to an Aussi Shiraz. Same fruit, but the oiliness and the brightness of the fruit are different. This is an early example and is still holding up - well within the drinking window.

color is inky purple with just a hint of brown reflecting its age. border is short. nose of deep lush black cherries with just a hint of smoke. it emphasizes the lush dark fruits. on the palate it is medium body with medium alcohol content and again slams you with sweet vibrant black cherries and is rounded out with just a hint of smoke. no chocolate. a bit of oakiness. finish is medium and warm and just a hint of heat. has definitely improved with age since my last tasting. will cellar the other bottle until 2010.

Heritage: Big, intense berries, a bit ’o spice in the attack/nose; smooth kickin’ mth, dark and a bit oaky flavors, shrooms, rich big t’s, not sweet though.

Heritage: Super syropy, thick inky wine; coffee w/sweet cherry notes; swt notes in mth; thick t’s, really juicy mth. Big fruity guy with character at good price.
