  • Surprisingly violet, still had some tannin , but they were silky, opened up within a half an hour. Had with cheese and charcuterie. Not much fruit left. A little earthy.

  • Drank way beyond it’s recommended life cycle. Cork was brittle. Strong oaky barrel on the nose. Hints of cinnamon and spice on the taste.

  • Drank way too late in its lifecycle. Cork was dry and crumbly. Full bodied nose. Vanilla and cinnamon notes.

  • Opened and decanted at 5 pm and drunk over the next 5+ hours. Dark, nearly opaque garnet color with little to no hint of its 20+ years of age. Nose has vanilla, black plum, blackberry, tea, eucalyptus and a touch of chocolate. Slightly austere on the palate at first, but after an hour or so it softened a good bit before drying out again over the last hour or so. The flavors were led by the vanilla and plum and closed with the blackberry and chocolate on the aftertaste which lasted a good 25-30 seconds. This is old school Cali cab that is just delightful.

  • Muted nose of Cabernet fruit with some earthy undertones. Brick red, amber at the rim. The fruit here is muted or faded. I kept this for a long time because the first bottle of this that I had in the late '90s was hard as nails and gave up nothing but tannins and acid. It was very monolithic as well. Tart cabernet fruit, tobacco, tannins are resolved. With some air this becomes a bit more interesting. Not a great wine, but one that is reasonably complex. Kind of a throwback style for California!
