  • Still youthful with a bright fruit and few secondary notes. Crispy and polished. Very good but not very complex. No urgency to drink but I am not sure it will get a lot better with time.

  • A bit of a disappointment really (thuogh Grivot has certainly upped his game since 1988). Quite pale (normal), slight orange tint, but looking generally still youthful. Bouquet very "pinot", vegetal, a little alcoholly. Lots of extract - slightly chocolatey like some Californian Zinfandel or mature Aussie Syrah in some ways. It shares a certain rusticity with them too. Not much charm. Stern. Standoffish even. Palate tannic, well structured. Not much complexity, but more "massiveness", and again that sense of rusticity. Again I am reminded of mature rustic Aussie Syrah or Cornas rather than cool, classy Burgundy. Rich. Dashes of blueberries mix in quickly and then vanish. Hot finish. Lovely silky texture though, with some sweetness. But to my taste this is lacking in sheer vibrancy and Burgundian charm. Needs food to some extent, though doesn't seem to pair with anything I can think of - maybe something like a herby grilled chicken dish.

As for aging, this is most definitely drinking well now - but this has at least another 5-10 years in it yet, maybe more: it's very well put together.
