Just picked up at Garagiste. Every time I get ready to “sign off”. They find this!! Terrific! Last note was more articulate than I can be. But it’s long from past its peak. Took 2 hours to open up. Then a lovely Claret. It’s not the Smith Haut I had last month but it was $36!!!! Fabulous!

What a nose. Classic earthy bordeaux, with mushroom, chocolate shavings, dried black currant, cigar box, Asian five spice and dried violets. Good midpalate, creamy and medium bodied, with still chewy tannins. Some clear glycerol texture and sweet soft leathery fruits here, but slightly hollow midpalate. Might’ve been rich in its youth, but is now sculpted nicely. Also very drinkable in that its a little light on the finish with cherry cola and olive brine flavors. Drink now I’d say.

Charming nose of dark fruits, notably blackcurrant and blackberry. Almost a creaminess to it. No obvious signs of development. In the mouth, the attack is a tad watery, but it builds on the palate and finishes stronger. Still a fair bit of grip to the medium-length finish. Still plenty of primary fruit and little sign of development. Definitely lacks weight and concentration, but it's very drinkable. Probably at or near its peak - I can't see it getting much better - but at the same time, I'm sure it will hang on for a while yet.

Lovely old world wine - thouroughly enjoyable but not worth seeking out. Pleasant nose, moderate structure, nice length. Don’t foresee much upside.

- Aromas of black currant. It's balanced and has flavours of blackberry with a medium/full body. Smooth texture with a long finish.
