  • Lost interest in this vs. before as I've tried some better stuff around this price-point by now. Likely won't buy again.

  • Very satisfying old age statement whisky. Night and day compared to the 17-year which was really funky. This is striking and intense, with no peat or brine that I can detect - this is more about deep sherry. I'm no expert on whisky but this is one of my go-tos at the $150 or so pricepoint.

  • 5cl sample. With Elmar and Darryl. The whisky was medium amber-golden in colour and offered dried fruit, peppermint, coffee, sherry and caramel flambé on the nose. On the palate the whisky showed dried fruit, sherry and nuts, with a smooth, oily mouthfeel, warming alcohol and very good length. I must warn you, this whisky is dangerous! It is so round, smooth and balanced that in combination with its pleasant sherry sweetness it puts you at risk of killing a bottle without even noticing... Body 6/10, Smoke 2/10, Sweetness 5/10.

  • Nose: Sweet and salty. The sweetness is a bit non-descript, but seems to hover between rum and typical oxidative sherried whisky. The salt is part soy and part stale red wine, but in a good way, strangely. A bit of coffee cake with a thin layer of strawberry preserves on top.

Palate: Not watery, but a bit cool and quiet. Really just showing a bit of fruit, strawberries, lingonberries, and maybe Gran Marnier for a hint of chocolate liqueur with a trace of bitter orange extract. Not terribly complicated or dense, and a rather light and straightforward sherry.

Finish: A little short, maybe verging on medium in length. There's a slightly off-note there, sulfur? Usually that doesn't bother me, but it just sticks out a bit. That's more on the tail anyway. Still, strawberry jam and orange extract, and also a bit of coffee and unsweetened dense cake. B (83)
