A wow wine, mature red fruit nose with floral notes, spices and slight undergrowth. Very lovely nose can just smell this all day long. Equally good to drink, nicely evolved palate with great fruit and acid balance, very much alive and singing, very long and lovely finish, the hype is real.
I suspect that this wine has run its course. Probably at its best around 12-15 yrs old. This one has some tannins, with floral tones and pleasant, if fading, red fruits. Like kissing your aunt (on the cheek of course).
Pretty fantastic overall. Still fairly medium-red; a little browning, but not much. Aromatics start with a leathery component. That blows off and a certain earthiness/sauvage element emerges. Palate undergoes a similarly interesting transformation -- from somewhat stewed fruit to sweet, ripe (and earthy) fruit. Fascinating. Never ethereal -- this is a fairly big wine -- but really interesting and, again, pretty fantastic.
