2001 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Restaurant Waldhorn, Kirchheim, Germany): Popped and poured. Deep golden color with amber hue. Nose of fine Manzanilla Sherry, salty, complex and deep. On the palate also very salty, again Manzanilla Sherry notes, very good balance, creamy texture, complex and logn. Unfortunately it lacks acidity and that makes it a bit broader and hot (13,5% abv). With a higher acidity close to great, this bottle around 92

Intronizzation Night for Rhone (Lafayette): When we first learned about this wine we heard that it is lovely in its youth and then it basically disappears for 10-15 years and eventually comes back. We bought a few bottles of this vintage a few years ago and it was totally in that shut down phase and have never known when it would be safe to bring it back. Seems like the time is now. This was drinking very well. The Chave blancs are nice but to me there is something about the old vine Roussane on it's own that is just special. Honey and kindof a fleshy white peach note. Super tasty.

Opened to continue the celebration of husband's birthday. Much better than the last bottle we had which was very oxidized. Yes still probably past prime and a bit oxidized, but the wine was still had yellow stone fruit and lemon zest along with the notes of caramelized honey and toasted hazel nut. These are definitely on the down slope though - caution anyone considering purchasing these at auction and if you own - time to drink up.

The least appealing of the three old vintages tasted vertically (1999+2000+2001). Nose: fino sherry and red winter apples. Palate: overtly mature with low acidity, red apples, mushroom. Interesting yet over the hill.

A's Birthday dinner (Jade Palace): Pnp. Find a little hard to understand this. Nutty, port like yet still fresh.
