  • Nose of mature honey, marzipan, some apricots and ginger with hint of cinnamon. On the palate concentrated sweetness with excellent acidic balance. Honey, apricot, pineapple. Orange peel and pineapple adding acidity. Some cinnamon and almond showing on the long, complex finish. An excellent SGN and a great sweet wine of the world

  • 0.375 L Bottle, mid Sep 2020: brown amber color; boquet of figs, toast, diacetyl (butter), honey, molasses and sherry; juicy sweetness with a slight acidity on the palate; olfactory sensed flavors of apples, peaches and melon; oily texture.

This Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal SGN 2005 offered more expression and excitement on the palate than in the nose. Got the impression this bottle was already past his peak. The already strong brown color (see the picture) only 15 years after bottleing offered another hint for that argument. Bought the bottle 7-8 years ago at an auction and stored it in a wine fridge at controlled low temperatures. However, had no information how the bottle was stored before my purchase.

  • Charity Event - French Tasting (Restaurant Daniel): liquid gold...expressive nose of grapefruit and Meyer lemons...intoxicating palate of apricot, herbal tea and a touch of cinnamon...quite viscous and delightful way to end an epic evening

  • Dinner at Volt Table 21, Frederick, MD. Shiny gold in the glass, this wine was a little difficult to evaluate with the memory of the previous night's dessert wine ( '05 ZH Clos Windsbuhl SGN Trie Speciale ) still burning so brightly. The rich nose gives off the aromas of burnt sugar. On the deeply fruity palate there was great depth but not as much as the Windsbuhl ( granted, an unfair comparison ). Very long on the finish and a very nice match with the coconut & pineapple course. This is drinking so youthfully right now and really needs time to unwind and show all it has. A fantastic dessert wine at this point and in time it will likely be among the finest Jebsal SGNs ever produced. 50+14+13+9+9 = 95

  • The Magical 2005 Vintage at Domaine Zind Humbrecht (Turckheim, Alsace, France): This wine is just electrifying to drink. With 7% alcohol and over 300 g/l residual sugar one could imagine a heavy thick wine but that couldn't be further from the truth. The delicate beauty of Clos Jebsal comes shining through even at these ripeness levels. Really a wine to experience as words can't properly capture it's beauty. 50+14+14+9.5+9.5=97+
