Beyond its "drink by" point but still enjoyable. I confess I'm not a Merlot lover and am saddened to see this ordinarily mediocre grape take over in Saint-Émilion from cabernet franc and to a lesser extent in the Médoc from cabernet sauvignon. It has been too widely planted in Washington and California. The reason: disease resistant, early ripening, yields better than cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Of course, there are great Merlots, but they are few and far between. The movie "Sideways" was mostly right.

Nose of raspberry, cassis & pencil. Deep garnet color. Black cherry fruit surrounded by cedar and pencil notes with rich young tannins for a long finish.

Not a big merlot fan but this was very good. Dark fruit, some oak, long finish good nose. Looking forward to the next bottle.
