This is very nice, at this stage still really needs food. Served with rib-eye which was a nice pairing. By itself, the tannins make it come across as quite harsh. Very pretty nose with a lot of cigar box, some earth, and some dark fruit. Nice fruit on the palate, but not fruity, a little bit of tar, and an interesting menthol like flavor I can't quite put my finger on. Medium length finish that is again a little harsh from the tannins.
Good Bordeaux style. Touch of earth on nose and nice fruit on palate. A slight astringency (alcohol) or camphor on finish. Tannins solid but integrated. Seems ready to drink now. Longer finish would put this high on my scale of 2006 bdx experiences.

(Chateau Lagrange (St Julien)) A nice layer of sweet fruit here, with a little element of sweet, crumble-pastry to it suggesting residual oak. Overall rather appealing. The palate has a very soft presence, polished and with a touch of oiliness to it, although with a firm core of tannins at its centre, and fresh acidity to it as well. Good well-defined fruit on the finish, and quite long with desirable grip here. A good showing but quite disparate on the palate at present - will need to come together.
(Chateau Lagrange St Julien) Creamy vanilla and blackberry on the nose, with a sweet, crumbly, buttery oak element. A very supple palate, quite stylish, with a ripe character and gentle grip beneath. Very well composed, with ripe tannins and nice acidity. This has really fleshed out since my first tasting. A good sweetness to the fruit too.
(Chateau Lagrange St Julien) Quite open on the nose, sweet fruit, nice freshness. Rounded, lots of tannin, moderate texture, but not really enough flesh for me. Nice acidity, some good fruit. It is lively but lacks substance. Good.
