Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Agreed on previous notes. I was wondering if it just hadn't held up to aging at all, but I agree that it was just flat, no personality whatsoever- and somewhat off-putting in its muddled flavors with no palate lift.

  • This wine has intrigued me since reading Kermit Lynch's recent mailer wherein he promotes this wine as "hand selected" by Bernard Raveneau. (Whatever that means - did he select it with his right or left hand?) Since then, I've learned that what Raveneau selected was a second wine of Domaine Jean Collet (omitted from Kermit's write-up). Well, my thinking was that Raveneau plus Kermit would equal something special, but unfortunately I was wrong. Particularly disappointing because I am a big fan of the work of both. My first impression was that this wine was not clean. It tasted moldy and I thought perhaps it was corked. I gave it some time and then the power of suggestion took over - was I smelling truffles? After all, this is "Les Truffieres". But I don't think so. Overnight, it did develop some clarity and brightened up somewhat, but there was little energy, little tension, it tasted insipid and flat.
