This was very good, right in a great spot now. Great fruit up front, cherry, some herbal notes, bright acidity, low tannin, lighter than expected but great. Looking forward to next bottle in a couple years...
This is a really lovely wine, and drinking perfectly. Nose is light but has bramble and dark cherry. Relatively light, but so very elegant. Not a superstar but almost Burgundian in its lightness and elegance. I expected a bigger wine; loved what I got but maybe a lesser bottle.
Brilliant and actually quite astonishing tonight. The 2006 Cuvée de Mon Aïeul is perfectly open for business. It exhibits a rich and dark massively elegant Grenache fruit which is accompanied by kirsch, lavender, fig jam and fresh herbal tones. A total crescendo of the hallmarks of this varietal. The palate is superbly integrated with a strikingly lovely balance. Tannins are gone, or perhaps just on holiday tonight. The overall impression is very positive, but it is time to drink up. No further evolution in sight here, is at least my personal guesstimate. This is a stunning Grenache based wine which has been on a sensational track of development but perhaps reached its peak? However, it might very well last another decade in the cellar...
FANTASTISCH!!!

(Pierre Usseglio Mon Aieul Chateauneuf du Pape) #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-this smells like sauerkraut and hint of pickles as well that I like it a lot; finishes off with gorgeous red fruit (cranberry, strawberry & cherry); PALATE-Wow…this is a BIG BOY; big powerful palate; ridiculous amounts of cranberry, strawberry and cherry (like an imaginary Ocean Spray drink); little chalkiness; gorgeous leather and chocolate components on back-end; really pretty and complex; a little black pepper/spice on the third quarter transition; big, bold wine that is also very young as this can cellar 25-30 years' but this is pretty damn delicious; the complexity is over-the-top; one of the more complex CdP's I've had in a long time; this '06 is quite approachable and a little more classic; extremely well made; this is a very serious and complex wine; the mouthfeel is extraordinary as this is just SO silky; RP-96; GV-94
(Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul) Dark red violet color; nice berry, spicy plum and baking spice nose; delicious, elegant berry, blackberry, graphite with depth and minerality; medium-plus finish 94+ pts.
