  • Opened and allowed to Slo-Ox in our 56 degree cellar for 8 hours. This 2003 Medlock Ames Cabernet Sauvignon Bell Mountain was opened to pair with grilled NY Strip steaks along with a 2005 La Vieille Cure Fronsac Bordeaux red, which was also allowed to Slo-Ox for the same 8 hours. An ever-so-slightly cloudy purple-ruby in the glass with pretty solid edges; no bricking. The nose features blackberry, dark plum, cassis, dill weed and bell pepper. Very good intensity and concentration, with a 20-sec cedar- and bell pepper-tinged finish. Overall surprisingly still in good shape, though obviously a few years older than the La Vieille Cure alongside, with a bit more secondary characteristics. Was a very good match with the steaks on this evening.

  • No detailed notes. Had with an array of dishes (quail, rabbit fritters, chickpea fries, spaetzle, ...) and it paired very nicely. Beautiful fruit forward nose. No signs of age being an issue. Medium plus finish with medium acid. Not my favorite style of aged cabernet, but was pleasantly surprised with this one. Oak is in perfect balance. Would estimate another 5+ years easily given proper storage.

  • PnP nose is very aromatic. Blueberry, something brambly. On the palate lean blueberry, medium acidity. Smooth medium plus finish. Still a bit of grip on the tannins and a slight toast from the oak. Enjoyable. Not fading, you have time.

  • Murky garnet and sediment with medium viscosity in the glass. Black fruit, currant, vanilla, bramble and pepper on the nose. Secondary plum, black licorice and hide. Medium body with vibrant black cherry, blueberry, cranberry, plum, toast and pepper on the palate. Secondary olive and green pepper. Tight, mouth coating and chalky tannin. Decent acidity. Med-long finish. Nice drinker, but lacking expression and complexity.
