  • About 40 months after the last note, this has not improved. Rather it has thined out a bit and, while drinkable is not remarkable. Little tannin, cherry, strawberry, cranberry (generally red fruit) profile with some acidity. The acidity shows on the finish which is shortish. Should have consumed younger. The pepper of several years ago is gone completely.

  • Ruby red with orange/salmon edges. Tight nose of clean leather, chewing tobacco, little fruit. Reserved cherry mid palate, but a full expresive burst of pepper near the end.

  • Medium purple color with a watery edge. A complex nose of wet earth, barnyard, pencil lead, blackberries and red flowers. I consumed this over two days. By the second day the earthiness had blown off. This is a superb food wine. Enjoyed with an old-fashioned stew of pot roast and root vegetables. Drink through 2013 for best enjoyment - but who can wait? Approximately $30. Textbook example of Gigondas

  • With 2005 CdRs selling now for $20, this wine is in an awkward price point at $24. There are some really good chateuneuf du papes our there for only a few bucks more; so if you are going to pony up from a CdR, might as well pass this by and go for one of those.

That aside, this wine does offer a lot. Very nice nose of cranberries, berries, and burnt toast/rubber. Rich mouthfeel (med body) and bright acidity make it easy to pair with lots of foods. Nice structure and balance with passive tannins and oak.
