Fairly hollowed out middle of the road Bordeaux starting to show some age. Usually a pretty decent wine that hangs on well into its second decade but this one is a bit empty. Classical but lightweight - nevertheless, excellent value at £12. Gives up that classical Bordeaux palate before things were all dialled up to 11.
The colour is brownish from age. The nose is pleasant in an Old World kind of way. I drank it after eating, and it goes well with food (pasta with red sauce). I personally would not drink this alone. The tannins taste smoothed out to me, and a little silky, again presumably from age. Not my favourite Bordeaux, but nicely aged. If you have a half bottle, it is ready to drink, unless you like a more mature wine. $20/half bottle. Overall value: 3 stars of 5. Overall impression: Very Good (86.5).
The nose had some cranberry, blackberries, smoke, and earth. I liked the palate - it combined some toasty flavors with a dark earthiness. Certainly has a warmish profile to it, but the house style seems to keep everything balanced.
