  • Fairly hollowed out middle of the road Bordeaux starting to show some age. Usually a pretty decent wine that hangs on well into its second decade but this one is a bit empty. Classical but lightweight - nevertheless, excellent value at £12. Gives up that classical Bordeaux palate before things were all dialled up to 11.

  • The average drinking window for all vintages with a drinking window, 1985 to 2012, is 15 years, or to 2021. Excluding outliers '85 to '90, it is 13 years, or to 2019.

  • The colour is brownish from age. The nose is pleasant in an Old World kind of way. I drank it after eating, and it goes well with food (pasta with red sauce). I personally would not drink this alone. The tannins taste smoothed out to me, and a little silky, again presumably from age. Not my favourite Bordeaux, but nicely aged. If you have a half bottle, it is ready to drink, unless you like a more mature wine. $20/half bottle. Overall value: 3 stars of 5. Overall impression: Very Good (86.5).
